Austen Smith

Austen Smith is a Vice President at MSA. In this role, he focuses on manager selection, portfolio construction, and evaluation of public market investment opportunities.

Prior to joining MSA in 2025, Austen was an Investment Manager at the Rice Management Company. In this role, Austen conducted manager diligence and investment analysis across asset classes for the $8 billion University Endowment with a focus on the Marketables Allocation. Prior to this, Austen was an Investment Specialist in the JPMorgan Private Bank, advising family offices on portfolio decisions including asset allocation, manager selection, and opportunistic investments.  

Austen is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Economics and Human & Organizational Development. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
